Frequently Asked Questions
Is it possible to talk with you before booking an appointment?
Yes, a free initial telephone appointment is offered before an appointment is booked. It is important to ensure that I am the right therapist for your child and discuss the concerns that you have.
Where does assessment and therapy take place?
This can take place in the comfort of your own home or at preschool/school.
How may sessions will my child need?
This will be completely dependent upon the assessment process and your child’s individual needs, requirements and personal/family circumstances. It is typical to book a block of therapy and to take a therapy break to help consolidate learning and practice. Then, if needed, to book further therapy sessions. It is completely flexible in terms of how often to book; weekly, fortnightly, monthly or even every 6 weeks. This can be discussed once assessment has been completed.
How long are sessions?
This can vary slightly depending on your child’s needs. Assessment typically takes 60-120 minutes – obviously as this increases it might be important for this to be completed over more than one session. This would also be appropriate if assessment is taking in place in more than one setting. Therapy sessions are usually 45- 60 minutes long dependent upon your child’s needs and age. This can all be discussed once assessment has been completed.
Do you get any discount for block bookings?
Yes, it is usually £65 per hour, but it is possible to buy a block of 5 hours with a £25 reduction = £300.
Can I, as a parent/carer, help with the therapy process?
Most certainly, parents and carers are central to supporting the child during therapy. Dependent upon your child’s area of need, it might be necessary to support with regular speech and language practice, which might involve modelling or providing a supportive environment. Your support is vital and progress can certainly be sped up when therapists and families are both working to support the child together.
My child already sees other therapists, would you be happy to communicate and work alongside other therapists?
Yes, of course, it is important to work together as a team to support the needs of your child. I am happy, with your permission, to work as a multi-disciplinary team with any therapist that is involved with your child.
What happens if I manage to get an NHS therapist mid therapy?
This is fine, I am more than happy to work with the NHS Speech and Language Therapist to share what has been completed to far, or I am happy to work alongside an NHS Speech and Language Therapist to provide further support for your child.
How do I ensure your professional status meets requirements?
I am happy on request to provide the details of any of my qualifications or professional memberships that have been mentioned on the website.
